PANAMA HATS at the Panama Airport. Shelves of them. It’s a pretty nice airport if you find yourself with a 3 1/2 three hour layover. Panama hats are actually made in Ecuador, except when they’re made in China. Back when Panama was the hub of all South American trade, folks saw that the hats shipped from Panama, and well… Real Panama (Ecuador) hats are woven from toquillo straw and the best are said to be made in Ecuador’s Montecristi region. Some darn nice chocolate there, too. Now, time for my connection to Guatemala.
