Please welcome Dancing Lion Chocolate artist-in-residence Katherine Donovan. Katherine paints entirely in cocoa butter on chocolate bars and other chocolate media.
“Painting with cocoa butter is like nothing I’ve ever worked in, but I’ve been inspired by my time at Dancing Lion Chocolate,” said Donovan. “I’ve combined both water color and oil painting techniques to create chocolate paintings that reflect themes about New Hampshire and cacao.”
Donovan uses colored cocoa butters from Chef Rubber, a kitchen specialty company that works with artisan chocolatiers, cake decorators and pastry chefs around the world. These are the preferred artistic cocoa butters of Dancing Lion Chocolate, and the shop uses them to decorate bonbons, chocolate boxes and commissioned works of chocolate art.
“Color is a fantastic tool to break the boundaries between chocolate and art”, say Master Chocolatier Richard Tango-Lowy. “Katherine’s work is remarkable. She brings the fine art techniques she learned at NHIA to an unusual medium—rare and single-origin chocolate.”
Katherine’s works range from $3 for a painted turtle through $30-45 for bars. Feel free to inquire about commissions and special works.
