Life is a Helix

Snow gathers on the branches,
As it does every winter, every storm;
Nothing changes, and everything changes.

I craft another bonbon–
Cream and chocolate;
Nothing changes, and everything changes.

Life is a helix (of semi-precious stones).
Now I understand!

“Time Considered as  Helix of Semi-Precious Stones” is the title of a 1970 short story by writer Samuel R. Delany. I don’t recall the story, but as I wrote this poem, the title came to mind and now makes perfect sense! ~Rich

Note: I just reread the above story. It’s pure Delany.
