Rich is traveling again. Good for inspiration.
Tuesday through Thursday: Taito, Tokyo
Enjoyed breakfast with phenomenal coffee and excellent jazz at the tiny Beat Cafe near Ueno Park in Tokyo. Worth going out of your way for if you’re in the area. Dinner tonight at a cool little izakaya a block from our inn. Three guys, three tables, dining at the bar. Yet more jazz, and the food and service were awesome. The wagyu beef dish was seriously awesome.
Not much in the way of chocolate so far, but I’m not looking for chocolate; I’m looking for that special little way of attending to every minutest detail.
Friday: Kyoto
Tokyo Station is very large. We pickup up ekiben–train station bento boxes for lunch on the Shinkansen bullet train. Ekiben are a big deal. There are myriad combinations, made fresh in the station, and they’re both beautiful and delicious. The journey to Kyoto took about two hours. Kyoto Station, like Tokyo Station, is large and confusing, but very cool. You could spend hours eating, shopping, and exploring before exiting into the waiting city.
