Enjoying breakfast in our tiny apartment in the center of L’Ilse Saint-Louis–the oldest part of Paris. Fragrant apricots, torn chunks of baguette that we purchased this morning from the boulangerie next door, soft cru cow’s milk cheese, saucisson sec, Spanish strawberries, and chocolate, of course!
For those who snub their noses at “that French chocolate maker” , I just took a bite of this year’s El Pedregal from Valrhona and it’s ridiculously good. Soft red fruit notes with a hit of banana up front, just enough acidity to give it a lively brightness that doesn’t mellow in your throat, and only gently sweet. The Gran Couva below it was equally exceptional.
