James says “Alissa wanted to take a picture of the ‘free welcome box’ made of chocolate from the Vineyard to send to Rich, and then I got on a knee and told her Rich doesn’t need to see that.”
Congratulations to James & Alissa; we knew they were suited for each other the first day they walked into the shop!
James commissioned the box from us a month ago, and we really enjoyed creating a special something for a special couple. I created a cardboard mold for the box, used it to form the chocolate, then finished it in lustres and airbrushed cocoa butters to obtain the “crazed copper” patina. The magnificent lid is a piece of art from sculptor Teresa Moorhouse–she works in bronze, but let me have some of her old molds to use for chocolate. I formed a special slot for the ring on the inside, then filled the box with softly-brushed bonbons and a single fire-red honey heart.
James smuggled the box (in an unobtrusive “REI” bag) to Napa, where he planned to pop the question at a winery.
