I’m not an artist by accident.
My mother is an artist–Ringling School of Art with an impressionist bent; I suspect I acquired whatever bit of talent I have through her very competent genes. Mom Lowy lives in a beautiful Florida glade, but deigned to spend a few cold New Hampshire weeks at Dancing Lion Chocolate making baskets and decorating bonbons. Case in point,
A Partridge… I crafted the saffron cinnamon pear caramel for the pear bonbons and coached on the overall execution, but “Da Momma” painted the pears and created the extraordinary chocolate tree and leaves. She made nine of these boxes, plus one slightly different, each signed and numbered by the artist. There’s even a hand-blown glass partridge. I haven’t fallen too far from the tree, so to speak; but I know where any real talent comes from.
