A 40 minute walk into the Braden Reserve rainforest yields a precious sight: BFREE’s pure wild cacao–genetically tested and validated to be 100% pure Criollo. We look forward to getting our hands on these beans in a few months. Just wait until you taste this stuff in our bonbons.

A good time was had by all. Left to right: The Mayans, Chef Eddie and Ophalia, who keeps the place clean and neat, and also makes the beautiful bracelets and baskets available in BFREE’s tiny gift shop. The New Hampshirites, me, my wife, Torene, Chef Donna. Finally, our host, Jacob.
We’re missing many key BFREE folks in this photo. Eddie’s father, Tom, who has a wicked sense of humor and suckered Heather into an identify the bird riddle game for something like two hours over dinner. Elmer, who knows all there is to know about BFREE’s cacao, and all the other equally smart, wise, and interesting Mayan folk we met and chatted with during our stay.
